Well, lets just say nutrition wise I'm no where near as bad as I was a year ago post NEQ, so I'd like to think. Last year I was insane eating whatever I wanted whenever. The main eating sessions I can remember would be inhaling a dozen donuts and a whole pizza pie (not on the same day). So overall I've been pretty good, however last night was my worst night yet. My dinner was basically milk and cookies, no one is perfect. Starting today I'm really going to watch my diet and train hard again.
I feel the same way.
I WOD at black box NYC. I've only been crossfitting for a month so yeah I'm a puppy compare to you dawgs. I've seen the benefits of proper dieting as well as bad (I've had that "Oreo special" a few nights for dinner myself.) I'm just curious have you done paleo and stopped? or did you always eat as freely as you do? Do you feel that you benefit from proper dieting? Or do you just find yourself having to work twice as hard without it? After seeing your video it made me wonder just how important is a strict diet if you're willing to give 150% to your WODs. I'm sure it plays a major part. But I just wanted to ask since I'm new to all of this. Thanks in advanced.

First off Marcos, thanks for the post!!! Second of all I am the last person who should be giving nutrition advice. I have not really put forth much of an effort to educate myself with what I should and shouldn't be eating. Instead I've just listened to some friends and ate what I ate because they said it was necessary for recovery and whatever. This year I stayed as paleo as possible just because I thought it would be easier for me with preparing my meals. I must say 2 years ago I followed no plan eating whatever I wanted whenever and was still able to get a fast fran and hit other PRs. Since switching over to a cleaner diet though, I do feel better throughout the day, during a workout, and quicker recovery. So basically you should look into Zone/Paleo or both. Thanks again! I thought people stopped reading this!
Thats right, I'm happy with my performance. Other than qualifying my goal for this competition was being in the top 10-15 of fire breathers. I mean really, I ain't no Speal or Mikko. Did you know that my mom still............eh never mind. I do have a sub 2 fran and can pull off a sub 3 fran chillin, but that doesn't really matter in the end. Overall I thought I was much more physically and mentally prepared compared to last years regional qualifiers. If I was to bomb any event it should have been the row/burpee box jump WOD and from "getting comfortable with the uncomfortable" I ended with a sub 10 performance which was a miracle since I'm 4'9".
WOD 2 went well but the only thing I regret was not having my very own jump rope adjusted for a short man. Double unders aren't a problem for me, but I purposely have been using a longer rope because its safe. I ended with a time of 5:25 which I know could have been in the 4:00 range if my DUs were a little bit faster. Due to this I bought a couple of ropes which I can't wait to use, but more importantly will have in case they are needed for another competition.
WOD 3 was basically what I like to refer to as a shit storm. For this snuff film I had the privilege of being in the final heat. Not much to say here other than my body began to break down during the third exercise. Something didn't feel right, my nutrition was a little off, but was able to push through the pain looking like a cupcake. It was during this moment I realized that if you're off just a little whether it be with sleep, nutrition, or whatever, you're not going to be able to perform at your best.
Anyway I'm keeping it real. At the regional qualifiers this year they are only taking the top 3 men and women. My goal for this competition maybe the same, top 10-15. I know I have the goods, but I must be 100% on that day.
Thats right, if you don't believe me then shave your entire body and pay the price. Once you start caring about your aesthetics during crunch time you've already lost. A classic example was when former UFC heavy weight champ Andrei Arlovski was defending his world title against Tim Sylvia some years ago. Prior to this match Arlovski was hairy like no other and was unstoppable because he could care less about his appearance. However as his career grew things changed and when FIGHT DAY came he showed up to the match with a nice shiny chest, stylish hair, and facial hair neatly trimmed. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the idea of up keeping ones appearance here and there, but before an important competition that should be the last thing on your mind.
Anyway, the point of this is when its game time, show up like wolverine and bring the pain. I can't believe this weekend is finally sectional time. Its been a long wait and I have made many sacrifices for this 2 day event. Compared to last year my training has been much more intense and smarter. As soon as I hear "3,2,1, GO" I'm going to start foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog and kill each WOD. If I don't place then it will be embarrassing, but I am willing to go pass the pain barrier to do well!
I have no doubts you'll kick some pretty serious ass this weekend. I like the wolverine idea, don't shave at all, I wanna see grizzly rhabdo whoop some ass.

hey jason
good luck in the sectionals. Remember to be smart this year - keep a little for the second half of WODs 2 and 3
Rhabdo/wrestler voice, " Let me tell ya something.......My ratings for this blog have gone way down, and when I say down I mean dowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn like the song. I have decided to suspend myself from further posts till I feel I have something important to write about. Only things on my mind now are my gymnastics show and training for the sectionals which I'm willing to die for. Hope all is well and remember, If you are serious about your training, man or woman, then you should strive to have mental toughness. Remember if you black out at your gym, you always have your people to take care of you nahmane?
1st Well not much to say other than training has been a little weird lately. I don't feel burnt out, but every other training session strange stuff has been happening like messing up a rep, sloppy handwriting, hearing the wrong thing, and equipment malfunctions. I don't mean to sound like I'm wining here, I'm a man nahmane even though I still live at home with my parents.
2nd Anyway at the moment I feel pretty juiced up, not as juiced as usual, but still pretty juiced. Next weekend is Hybrid Athletics' strongman winter challenge and I guess my training has been somewhat aimed towards that. I wouldn't really say what I do works, everything is random and based on how I feel. The only consistent things are my strength WODs.
Lastly Another gymnastics show is coming, this March, SECTIONAL MARCH!!!!! Everything is falling into place which feels very good. Only downside is that I have to figure out what kind of routine I'm going to do again. Last year I was crazy and was really feeling it, this year I'm not really there yet. Here is a clip from last year's show if you haven't seen it yet. I win my students respect for a week then I'm deuce again HAHA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RimQM3Fv2Jc
Just want you all to know that I have been on vacation for the past week and will return Janurary 4th to keep you all posted with my training and other silly and humilating experiences with my life. Happy new year nahmane.
As the days go by I realize that another year is passing by right before my eyes (oooo that sounds original right). Not much has changed I must say. I haven't grown another inch and my facial hair is still that of a prepubescent boy. I mean really, I'm almost 26 and I still can't grow a manstache, a GO T, or some hardcore sideburns. I'm fine with being short, but some man hair would be a real plus for me at this point in my life.
Crossfit wise fortunately I can say I'm a different person. If I had to bet a fight between last year's Rhabdo to this year's, I'm going with this year's because my old self ain't deuce compared to my new self. A year ago I couldn't do a lot of things that I can do now like 30 plus wall ball shots unbroken for example. I know that probably doesn't seem like an accomplishment, but only if you saw me a year ago. I would miss the wall, blame my height, punch the ball instead of catching it, and yell F#$% with a real passion. In fact I think there is a video of me doing FGB with actual footage of me having a wall ball breakdown!!! There are quite a few other things I feel much more comfortable doing as well, but there is no need to mention them. Bottom line, I'm tougher and stronger than I was last year.............son.
Good work Rhab, All of us at GFCF have seen changes in ourselves and each other. I still wish I had "then & now" shots of myself; but I know how I have changed & Rob , too. Let's all keep up the good work and have an even better 2010.
Oh....Let your fro-grow!!!Come on!!!!!

I echo Bob's comments exactly. But I'll add "The machine" to your title.

Thanks, but I think we need a better name for eric.
Yea, that line is from the movie Office Space. Not a bad movie especially when you're feeling down in the dumps nahmane? Anyway I'm psyched about these shoes. To be honest I never planned on getting them, but since my foot strain or whatever the problem was, I thought I should jump on the bandwagon ASAP.
The last few days my foot has been acting a littleweird to the point where there has been no pain at all. I was planning on taking today off but at the moment my foot feels 100%. So I guess I'll workout because other than that I feel fine, plus I have no place else to go.
On another note my training sessions for this past Monday and Tuesday have been pure deuce, aka crap. Monday's WOD I couldn't stop laughing because the person next to me kept cracking me up, and Tuesday there was a clock malfunction. Once the clock goes the workout sometimes becomes meaningless..............
Hey Jason/Rhabdo - don't know that we met but I know of you, just through crossfitty stuff - and we're friends on FB ;)
Glad you posted a link to your blog - I dig it! Will be a regular visitor from now on. Maybe some of your badassedness will rub off on me.

Thanks guys, and best of luck Shana with your training for the games.
I'd say that last week was probably one of my best weeks yet with my training. Hopefully I'm not peaking too early and then when sectional time comes around I'm on the ground squealing like a pig "Deliverance" style. Thats basically one of my major excuses for my performance at soon to be last years NEQs.
I was most impressed with my Badger performance completing it in sub 30 minutes. Since I felt so good after, I waited an hour and decided to do some light deadlifts which was 3 sets of 10 at 315lbs. That was fine, but then as the next day went on I began to notice some pain in my right foot. I assume the pain was caused from the deadlifts, but more importantly probably from the shoes I've been lifting in for months now. I lift in wrestling shoes mainly because they are bad ass, but I can't afford a serious injury now. Due to this I have given in and have ordered a pair of olympic weightlifting shoes and I can't wait till they arrive!
My foot still feels a little weird but it has been improving each day. I'm still WODDing on it, but staying away from barbell WODs for now till my O shoes come nahmane. Anyway, looking forward to another week of training.
I want pink and black converse to lift in, cause Id look silly in real lifting shoes (Id look like a poser...LOL) but a pair of converse would really help and look cute :)
I have a question on a rather serious note, I am in need of some personal training...I think Id like to work with you, your reputation is most impressive, do you think you can work with me?
