Anyone in a position to attempt a legitimate CrossFit Total should be
familiar enough with their capabilities on the lifts to have a fairly
good idea of just what might be possible for a one-rep max (1RM).
This number is what you warm up intending to do. A meet situation
will involve three attempts, and this is a good way to determine a true
1RM. The first attempt would be a weight
you know you can do for a heavy set of three. The second attempt would
be a weight you know without any doubt that you could do for a
single, having just done the first attempt. And the third attempt is
the weight you want to do, based on your performance on the previous
two attempts.

If people are interested, let me know and I can see if I can track another one down. OR if anyone is up for this one, maybe we can pull it off.

Results: BS – 170(PR), SP –75, DL – 230(PR) Total: 475 – 5 lbs off from where I was last time. I think I need to do CFTs at night, I seem to have better results. McDouglas – I miss you already, you can come back now. Michelle – I would love to Run-a-Muck. I did the Muddy Buddy in Chicago a couple years ago and it was a blast. Unfortunately I will not be here this weekend:( So I can’t participate, but if you know of another one coming up keep me posted. Maria (AKA – Grape Jones of Fire) great pics – I especially like the one of Bill and his little harem – if Retro could only see you all now. Marilyn – I hope you have not gone MIA with Doug. When are you coming back to mornings?
I just checked the FGB4 site...Guerrilla Fitness is #1 with $63,427, Crossfit Culver City in 2nd with $57,059!!!!!!! Jon Feigelson is the #1 individual. WOW!!!!!!!!!!

So many comments, where do I start?
@Joe G -- I am very suspicious of your sudden niceness towards me but I'll take it. Nice job yourself, crazy weight crashing aside.
@Sean -- why do you always have to work when the cool stuff is going down?!
@Eric (and Caitlin) -- Bill$ was mistaken. The mud run he was thinking of for November was held last weekend. I will look to see if there are any other ones in the near future. BUT if you can do next weekend, we will have you, me and Caitlin. We just need to get Bill$ to commit and we will have a team to trample through the mud with. And I will need to get the hubby to change a business call (details, details...) I really want to do one before the weather gets cold so I hope we can make it happen.
@Rhabdo -- the Popeye shirt was rad. And thanks for indulging me on pretending to think about doing the mud run. ;)

Liz Wall commented on 29-Sep-2009 10:25 AM
12.48 RX – (yeah baby!!!) LOL sometimes I am such a tool. Rhab – did you really run 3 5K’s? There is a discrepancy between your blog and the GF site – are you trying to become invisible, eat and lift heavy weights – I know you have been fasting brother, but I like you just the way you are. I had a breakthrough today being inspired by Peter and Renel and Brian VW. I climbed to the top of the rope and for the first time actually made it. I never knew I would be strong enough to lift this heavy ass. Oh and funny thing Drea described the new/old 400M mark as right next to the sex shop, when in reality it is next to Edward Jones Investments.
Gregg commented on 29-Sep-2009 10:25 AM

However, please note: Fight Gone Bad is still accepting donations and will not close down as far as I know.
I am still waiting on official word from FGB, but it looks to me that the 1st place plaque should be heading in our direction and hanging on our wall!

Gregg -- I am assuming that everything you wrote above should be in quotes. In other words, Culver City thinks they won? Is that factually accurate? I thought that at 5 pm PST (8 pm EST)the FGB site was showing us in first place. What gives? And don't they have to include checks that were in the FGB office by the deadline but not yet credited to the site? Hmmmm....

Couple things to say here: First, Joe G. congrats is in order because usually the Sunday message board has 7 comments TOTAL, we will deff pass that today.. Second, Vic's idea is 100% fitting for the picture today, my first thought when i hacked into NASA last night and saw that the pic was Joe G. was to post one of his many glorious quotes.. Thirdly, i have a good one to post but i know rhabdo is going to use it so i dont want to steal it from him.. Forthly, my Joe G. quote (i might add more later): this quote is a response to Lugo-Lemon saying that he might have mental health issues... Joe G responds: "you don't have to convince me. I mean, your inability to spell is enough evidence in and of itself."

repeating. This event calls for three rounds. The clock does not reset

"In the end, it's extra effort that separates a winner from second place. But winning takes a lot more that that, too. It starts with complete command of the fundamentals. I told her that Doug is a pharmacist and Gregg has an uncharged defibulator. That seemed to put her mind at rest. Gregg I have a plan for next year (I'm not a program manager for nothing). I think we should start our own fundraising for FGB. For example, once a month we should post FGB WOD and everyone who participates should make a contribution that day and/or we can have bikini & speedo car washes (with all you hunks at GF we will definitely get big donations :-) hell this is a good incentive for me to get in shape! Guys day 3 of marinating frozen "drunken grapes". I'll be at GF tonight with them. Yummy!!!

guerrilla (plural guerrillas) - Member of an unconventional group fighting small-scale, fast-moving (High Intensity) actions, against conventional forces. Guerrilla tactics involve constantly shifting (Varied) attacks. The strategy of the guerrilla is to wear down the enemy until he can be defeated in conventional battle or to subject him to so much pressure that he/she succumbs. In other words - DONT MESS WITH A GUERRILLA

LADIES: apparently there has been some guys night out action (and presumably they think the above is the pinnacle of manliness and fun). So....I think it is high time fora ladies night out which will be top secret and exclusive to the more mature and sophisticated gender. Stay tuned for details...
"Jonze" commented on 25-Sep-2009 07:37 PM
Got dammit!! I'm just getting home. NO "drunken grapes" tonight. I'm sorry!! Buuuttt will bring them tomorrow for sure. They will be Day 4 of marinading them - umh! Sorry Gregg!
Drea commented on 25-Sep-2009 07:46 PM
Aw hell, Michele. I used to be mature & sophisticated but now I work with Gregg. I am surprised I can even consider myself a lady. Actually, you should invite Gregg to the Ladies night. He was talking about pedicures today. I, in turn, hoisted some weight off of ground and grunted while doing so.
Rhabdo commented on 25-Sep-2009 08:47 PM
Michele I don't think that pic is a symbol of manliness so don't put that on me haha. When I party which is every once in awhile I don't play, cause I may bite the dust the next day nahmane.....
Michele commented on 25-Sep-2009 09:37 PM
Rhabdo -- I know you don't play when you party. I know the above photo is Gregg's fantasy of being 23 again. But, as much as I am sure many of the ladies would want otherwise, you will not be invited to ladies night.
Michele commented on 25-Sep-2009 09:40 PM
And Drea, you should know that hoisting weight and grunting would never, ever exclude you from a GFCM ladies night. Basically you just have to be HOT and COOl and SUPER STRONG which is inclusive of every lady at GFCM.

Michele commented on 24-Sep-2009 11:45 AM
I went with the CFE version in honor of Thom's triathlon side:
run (60 sec on: 20 sec off) x 18 covered 2.75 miles. Followed by 50 burpees in 5:19. Painful. I kept thinking, "How did he ever do 1000 of these?!"
krumpStyle commented on 24-Sep-2009 01:32 PM
Thanks Thom, for being one of my first CF buds at the start of my time at GFCM. Hope we all make you proud. Got it done in 8:53, and having done this, I actually believe that 1000 over the course of a day is doable. I know that is leaving me open for a bet. Now Thom is REALLY laughing.
Anne commented on 24-Sep-2009 02:28 PM
It was nice honoring Thom with this WOD. It was "easy" doing this WOD knowing it was dedicated to such a wonderful individual. 10:14 (?)

Liz Wall commented on 24-Sep-2009 04:39 PM
@Mickey - yes that was me - I try to do a mile (slowly) before all 6:15AM classes. It helps me loosen up and wake up - plus I don't have the time after class to run with BVW or Anne G.
@Maria - Not sure if the grapes were directed at me or Liz V, but I have a wedding tomorrow night - so no WODing/hanging out on a Friday night with you this week=( But can you save me some for Saturday after FGB? Maybe just 4 or 5, they sound delish!
"Jonze" commented on 24-Sep-2009 06:44 PM
Of course Reiko!!! Anyone else too!! Liz ain't no such thing as saving "drunken grapes"! LOL! Hell, I left some ol' regular red grapes in Gregg's freezer - you think he saved me some? And I'm suppose to be one of his "special people" lol!!!
Caitlin commented on 24-Sep-2009 07:02 PM
I did the CFE WOD in honor of Thom also. 18 rounds of :60 on :20 off. I decided to run, and covered 2.7 miles (michele, you are an animal! i wish we had done this one together!) followed by 50 burpees in 4:08. quite an uncomfortable WOD.
Reiko commented on 24-Sep-2009 08:04 PM

Reiko, you're the BEST!!! My sincerest thanks to you & Gregg for sticking around @ 7 to re-WOD. Rhabdo, great class as always, couldn't have gotten through this one without all of you. Only Reiko could get a better time on her 2nd round of 100 burpees, holy crap!!!! Overall I'd have to say that it was a very "re-wodding" experience (sorry about that)..... :-)

I echo Reiko's comments - lets get this one framed. SWOD - 15/15/15, Reg WOD - 6.43 with 65lbs.
@Doug from yesterday - we are not part of the cool crew (AKA: Gregg's special people category) that's why there are no WODs named after you or me, although I hear Gregg is considering naming a WOD Holy Cannoli for someone else who is entering that "special person" catergory.
@Christian from yesterday and today - where were you man? Did you go back to Golds? Comments during yesterdays WOD were classic.

Maria I know you well, we should have been shaking margaritas at the end instead of dropping our bodies to the ground. 9 of us did Jones this AM and there was almost as much cursing as when we did Caitlin and Great Scott which leads me to believe WODs names after Guerilla Fitnessers are the most bas ass of all the WODs out there. I don’t remember my time I think it was in the 24-26min range. Nice job everyone and what ever Ranal is drinking have her share it because that girl can move….Drea nice job as always.

Thank you Drea for keeping me from the ER by suggesting i do a "half-Jonze", got it done in 11 something,, using 25lb plate for the lunges and 20" box. Btw, on www.crossfithollywood.com there's documentation of my visit there on their daily blog (and a link to GFCM's site--Gregg, Amazon.com pays for this kind of affiliate promotion, you're getting for free via my travels :). In case you have to ask, see you tomorrow am.

So while you risk being annoying, you might want to try one last e-mail push. I think people just forget about it and need reminding. I also thought of a few people I had not hit up before.

AAAAA! GFCM has now dropped to 5th place for FGB! We need to stay on the leader board.
Anonymous, I don't know how deep your pockets are but here are where things stand:
Crossfit Culver City $37,599
Crossfit Central $21,321
Crossfit L.A. $20,761
Forged Fitness $18,639 (these guys were not even on the board before!)
Guerrilla Fitness $18,348
So as of now this is what it would take us to get us bumped up to the various places:
1st place: $19,251
2nd place: $2,983
3rd place: $2,413
4th place: $219
So 1st place seems like a stretch but the rest is really up for grabs peoples!! Let's make a mark for GFCM!!
If people are not fundraising themselves and want to donate, it probably makes the most sense to donate to Gregg's individual fundraising page here:
Maybe we can get him back on the individual leader board.

My CF Cali tour concludes tomorrow with a last workout at CFHollywood, (where I'm pretty certain their oldest member is 15 years younger than me). A great crew of folks--Andy at HCF is a fantastic coach. Hey Carlos, today discovered I've been working out with your brother Robert for the last 3 days. He's an Incredibly nice guy who killed me on Jackie today--on the other hand,he gave me a lot of props for making it through the 30 pull-ups (after the 1K row and 50 thrusters) w/o kipping. There are relatives of Guerillas at other CF's too, met Gregg's very cool bro-in-law Scott at Valley CF as well. Will be back at GFCM this week and looking forward to being home, but definitely enjoyed my time at these other boxes!
Thanks guys, it was awesome competing with Reo, Mickey, and Slewis. Plus I was able to block out my parents so I was happy about that. Even though the competition is over I'm going to stick with my diet because I was beginning to develop some nice vascularity in my abdominal region HAHAHA!

Congrats hybrid-crushers! Was there ever a doubt? BTW, what was the mystery event?
Rich commented on 21-Sep-2009 10:30 AM
Congrats to all the Strong men and women that competed, very cool. Football on Saturdays sounds fantastic! P.S. I love the new "Guerrilla Fitness is for Everyone" descriptions on the main page, good timing as I was just discussing the "for everyone" aspect of CF with someone the other day.

Thanks a lot everyone. The comp. was fun. I like Rhabdo will be sticking to my pre-competition diet...last night and yesterday I had 2 large plates covered with Doritos and melted cheese and chili, a Wendy's 3/4 pound triple stacker with bacon, a large Frosty, homeade meatballs and ravioli, a lot of pound cake with a chocolate dipping sauce and some apple pie. I am starting to see veins in my fat.
Ben commented on 21-Sep-2009 12:07 PM
Scott, you stole my meal plan!!!
Rich commented on 21-Sep-2009 12:33 PM
Yeah thanks for posting that Scott, helps me identify my obvious problem: Not enough dipping sauce on the pound cake. Roger that gold leader.

Liz, That was so fresh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michele commented on 21-Sep-2009 04:20 PM
Liz's joke totally went over my head until I read Ann's response. When I read Liz's comment I was thinking, "Why would Ann have a football helment?"
Liz Wall commented on 21-Sep-2009 04:26 PM
Ann - I'm sorry Gregg put me up to it, you know I'd never mess with the hairdo. I'm 1/2 way there too with a black and blue on my chin from burpees the other day when I slammed into the floor. Soooo not attractive.
Rhabdo commented on 21-Sep-2009 05:34 PM
Just came from Dunkin Donuts. All I have to say is starting tomorrow I'm back on the road to clean eating. Yikes, they almost had to kick me out.
caitlin commented on 21-Sep-2009 06:28 PM
That Video is Flipping INSANE.
Michele commented on 21-Sep-2009 06:36 PM
It so ROCKS. I love the part where the bar seems to magically zoom up to Caitlin's hands overhead. Everyone looks BADASS!

If people are interested, let me know and I can see if I can track another one down. OR if anyone is up for this one, maybe we can pull it off.
P.S. Nice photos Maria!!
And thanks for indulging me on pretending to think about doing the mud run. ;)
