Thanks to Andrea & Sean (and Gregg, in absentia) for a great workout this morning. Excellent WOD, and I set a PR of 3 x 305 in the deadlift. I'm beginning to think that Gregg wasn't kidding when he said that if I worked hard enough Guerrilla Fitness could give me that "bikini body" I've always dreamed about!

krump commented on 15-Jun-2010 12:46 PM
Drea, think I will probably be at that class with you. I was a card carrying member of the Science Fiction club at the Bronx High School of Science, which made me among the nerdiest of the nerds and probably explains a lot. Also explains why climbing the ropes last week gave me that extra bit of satisfaction. My wife has a t-shirt that says "I love nerds' that she wears proudly--some nerds get their happy ending.

Sean- got into a ripper yesterday in Fairfield- an office building with no sprinkler system. Oh what fun. Got the hot-tar treatment when the truss' sagged and part of the roof started dripping down as we hit it with a duce-and-a-half. 20 minutes in I was only down to just below 1/2 a tank. why is this important? Because this is the first interior job I had since joining Guerrilla, and my stamina and strenth were in high gear. handling a 2-1/2 inch hose stretched over 250ft is not easy- or light... but I ripped that sucker up and made it my biotch (followed by various ladder operations for the next 4 hours after they evacuated the building). I have no doubt that Guerrilla is why I was able to perform as I did. Thanks guys and gals.
Sean commented on 14-Jun-2010 03:01 PM
Karl, that is awesome news. I worked yesterday and was listening to the whole thing on the county radio.. I heard the evac. tones 3 times. I was actually wondering if you were there. Glad it turned out ok. More time per bottle rules.
My wife was at the 6am and said she met a guy that wants nothing more than to be Irish but she said he would probably be better as a lovely little gnome in our garden......something for the dog to get friendly with!!!!!

I don't see them listed on the affiliate site. They may be in for a world of hurt from HQ. Otherwise those were the weakest "wall ball" shots I've ever seen. Those fools are going to give Crossfit a bad name.

QUALITIES OF A GREAT “ATHLETE” From Dr Bruce Brown, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Having each of these qualities is at least as importantbeyond sports. CONFIDENCE: An athlete displays a quiet inner CONFIDENCE based on preparation, her own and that of her teammates. CONFIDENCE is a belief based on your daily work habits and your constant progress. This kind of CONFIDENCE is contagious within a team, built as athletes subject themselves to tough challenges and practices and see the value in hard work. These athletes develop a “go for it” mentality, become unafraid of failure, remain confident in “rough waters”. They prepare hard every day. When success follows, athletes tell you it’s because of the effort they put into preparation. The non-athlete has a FALSE confidence, not built on preparation but on factors he/she doesn’t control. Maybe he/she is blessed with great athleticism. Maybe he/she thinks that the team will “carry” him/her. In either event, he/she does not put the same effort or attention into practices as do the athletes on the team. Having true confidence is a choice. TEACHABLE SPIRIT: Athletes wants to learn and improve. They bring an enthusiasm for “continuous improvement” every day. They know that correction happens because a coach sees potential in them to get better. They have learned to take correction as a compliment and look at correction as an opportunity to improve. The athlete responds to correction with verbal and physical cues that he/she is listening and learning.
The non-athlete looks at any correction as criticism, and often responds with an excuse. Having a teachable spirit is a choice. PRIDE: The pride of an athlete is a shared one. It is found in the “shared joy of the inner circle“, a feeling among team members that no one on the outside can understand. Shared pride involves a desire to become as good as possible for yourself and for your group of teammates. It involves unselfishness, and accountability. Team pride is developed in parts of the game that require more effort than skill, where determination is more important than talent(DIMITT). (Example: “optimistic recovery” by everyone when a ball is lost.)
The pride of a non-athlete is self-oriented, often selfish. Such players often develop a “sense of entitlement“, where he/she thinks athletic skill should guarantee special treatment. Developing the right kind of pride is a choice. ACCOUNTABILITY: The athlete is responsible and demonstrates it when he/she takes personal accountability for what happens to him/her. When things are not going well, they look at themselves first to see where he/she can act to make a difference. They become a problem solver, better able to cope with stress and more likely to persevere when facing difficulties. He/She realizes that “you are either getting better or you are getting worse”, that if you are not making steady improvement, you are losing ground to those athletes who are. The non-athlete blames everyone but herself when things do not go well. She often fixes her focus on things she cannot control rather than those she can. Being accountable is a choice.
