It was high finance vs hard and fast fitness. I happily traded my series 7 license for a Crossfit certification and shortly thereafter opened the large bay door at 19 Elm st to introduce the community to GFCM.  Before opening GFCM,  I like many others at the end of their workdays stuffed my suit and shoes into a 3ftx1ft locker, donned my cool Nike airs, a breathable moisture wicking t-shirt, gave myself a once over in the mirror and hit the gym floor to wait around for the next cable machine to free up.  I was doing everything the fitness world at large was telling me to do.  But I was bored out of my mind!  And unbeknown to me, about to realize that my level of fitness was a laughing matter.  A google search for some fitness tips brought me to a video of a Crossfit workout.  They named it  "Fran". Strange I thought.  Stranger still was that it was just two movements. A squat/press followed by pullups.  I tried it.  It destroyed me.  And I wanted more!  So there I was with years of money spent on memberships to gyms that made all the best equipment available to me and I was crushed by a workout that used a barbell and a pullup bar.  So here we are today at GFCM.  Where we all train for genuine fitness. We all work hard, encourage each other and watch our bodies do things we never thought they could and push ourselves further than we ever have.  With the support of Crossfit affiliates and followers across the U.S and the world, we are revolutionizing what the general public has come to accept as fitness.

Sean Hector

Certified CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting & Barbell

Most of us do not have a problem talking about ourselves or letting others know how special we think we are.  Unfortunately Sean is not one of those people and having him write his own bio would leave a reader clueless to all of the things we at GFCM find so special about him.  Sean embodies the moniker of "coach" in every sense of the word.  A time keeper, a rep counter, or conversation partner he is not.  Relentless in his pursuit to instruct movements properly, unwavering in what we accept as fitness, he is. He will bring the best out of any individual that has the opportunity to work with him.  Some of us are better teachers than performers.  And some are unable to instruct to others what comes so effortlessly to them.  Sean is blessed with the ability to do both.  You may be listening to him or watching him, but in both instances you are learning how to do something right.

Andrea Kilby

Certified CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, CrossFit Kids, Competitive Olympic Weightlifter

I am not your typical coach. I have not spent years playing sports or working  in fitness facilities. In fact, I was a pudgy kid growing up. I disliked gym class and I was never picked first for a team. However, as I got older, fitness found me. I began to like going to a local YMCA. I used a variety of trainers to help me learn how to lift a pair of dumbbells. I was even in two sprint triathlons and a couple of 5k’s. Nevertheless, something was missing. That is when I found GFCM. Through a food blog. (I told you I like to eat).  What I have found with Crossfit is that I enjoy the pursuit of excellence. I thrive on perfecting technique. I do not just want to do a pull-up. I want my chest to the bar, every time. I do not want to throw weight up in the air because I have 100 reps to do. Every rep counts. There is no easy way out. I am demanding and will not settle for anything less. But then again, I am not your typical coach.

Jason "Rhabdo" Kaplan

Certified CrossFit, Kettlebell, Gymnastics Instructor

Imagine Jerry Seinfeld performing at Cirque du Soleil.  If the WOD doesn't bring you to your knees, his self deprecating humor surely will.  Jason began competitive gymnastics at the age of 10.  In 2002 he became the NJ State Champion on the still rings.  A graduate of Ohio State University, he was a varsity member of the gymnastics team and received his degree in physical education where today he puts his knowledge and expertise to good use as a Phys Ed  teacher at the Montclair Public School.  For those familiar with CrossFit and the WODs, Jason holds a "Fran" time of 2:08, nuff said.
